The Benefit of Feedback

We all go through life with biases about ourselves, after all, who knows us better than we do? Not many people. These biases can lead to forming assumptions that, in turn, have the ability to influence other decisions. This is why we need feedback. Good or bad it helps shape our vision because we can’t see everything on our own. Was your speech at the retirement party actually good? Do you really look good in green pants? The answers to these questions can be tough because they are rarely simple and straightforward. As someone who loves digging through data this can be frustrating at times. However, that’s why feedback from an honest, objective source can be transformative.

The Importance of Feedback

Without feedback I would not be the advisor that I am today. At TCI we take feedback seriously. As a team we regularly engage in discussions around our strengths and weaknesses and we seek feedback from clients annually, among other things. Nevertheless, without feedback growth would be impossible. I embrace opportunities for feedback because it’s in the best interest of our clients, TCI and myself to know what I need to work on.

How can we be the best version of ourselves if we don’t know where our blind spots are? For whatever reason, thoughts of feedback and blind spots always make me think of athletes. Let’s use LeBron James as an example. He is arguably one of the best basketball players ever. Yet, he still needs a coach…probably more than one. Even with his incredible amounts of natural talent, he can’t do it alone. He needs the objective eye of a coach to show him the opportunities for improvement he can’t see.

Feedback as a Means to Growth

At TCI, we strive to be your source for objective financial feedback. Whether we’re helping you through a major financial decision or life transitions, our feedback is only a phone call away. One way TCI is unique is the number of objective voices that are available to provide feedback. As a client you aren’t limited to the expertise on your team, you have the entire TCI team behind you with all our expertise, experiences and knowledge.

While we’re in the wealth advising business, sometimes it feels as though we are also in the people business. Yes, we’d like to see your investments grow, but what really excites us is helping people grow. We know that a little bit of feedback can make truly magnificent transformations occur.
